New Canaan

New Canaan is a small town with abundant charm in Fairfield County, CT, about 12 miles northeast of Greenwich and 45 miles from Manhattan. As of the 2010 U.S. Census, the population was 19,738.

New Canaan is the only municipality on the Connecticut Panhandle that does not border the coast and its proximity to New York City proved worthy of a connection to the New Haven Railroad, being the only such town. Many New Canaan residents commute to New York regularly and travel time to Grand Central Terminal is approximately 70 minutes.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 22.5 square miles. The town is served by the Merritt Parkway and a spur line of the Metro-North railroad. The downtown area consists of fine restaurants, a movie theater, library, the Victorian train station, antique shops, a book store, and various fine clothing and interior decorating shops. In addition to the many local boutiques and businesses, many national chains' stores can be found in the downtown area.

The town is bordered to the south by Darien, to the west by Stamford, to the east by Wilton, to the southeast by Norwalk, and to the north by Lewisboro and Pound Ridge in Westchester County, New York.

The town includes the following sections: New Canaan town center, Talmadge Hill, Ponus Ridge, Pinneys Corners, Smith Ridge, and part of Silvermine (extends into Norwalk and Wilton).
